The Major League Baseball Players Association is the collective bargaining representative for all professional baseball players of the thirty Major League baseball teams and serves as the exclusive group licensing agent for commercial and licensing activities involving active Major League baseball players. On behalf of its members, it operates the Players Choice group licensing program and Players Choice Awards, as well as the Major League Baseball Players Trust ( ), a charitable foundation benefiting the needy that was established and is run by Major League Baseball Players.

Job Description

The Licensing Manager - Apparel will develop and manage all aspects of MLBPA-licensed Apparel category to maximize revenue, protect player rights and enhance player images.

Responsibilities include:

Construct and execute an annual category business plan
• Define category objectives, including financial projections
• Identify market trends and trade opportunities
• Analyze current and potential business/category strengths and weaknesses
• Develop strategic and tactical plans to meet objectives

Effectively negotiate with licensees, retailers and other business partners
• Review license applications
• Secure favorable contractual terms while fostering positive relationships
• Accurately draft licenses, amendments and other agreements

Monitor and analyze financial reporting and payments
• Prepare quarterly and annual forecasts
• Ensure timely delivery to the MLBPA of all obligations
• Analyze licensee royalty reports

Support the development and execution of retail/consumer programs
• Work with retailers in all channels to expand the presence and sell-through of MLBPA licensed products
• Work with MLBPA staff and licensees to develop concepts, create P&L, pitch retailers, coordinate licensee(s) participation, player engagement and execute promotional programs

Ensure compliance with License Agreement terms

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications:
• Energetic, bright, detail-oriented individual with at least 5 years similar experience including prior experience in apparel and retail
• Bachelor’s degree, with excellent academic standards
• Excellent oral, written and presentation skills
• Strong attention to detail, time management and task prioritization skills
• Familiarity with hard goods and novelties a plus
• Passionate baseball fan with keen knowledge about Major League baseball players
• Sound computer skills including proficiency with Powerpoint and social media tools
