Job Description

Bonnier Publishing USA is looking for an Associate Editor/Editor to work with the Publisher and the editorial staff to create and grow a well-rounded and successful children’s list. Focusing on licensed books, the Associate Editor/Editor will be organized, energetic, and eager to work at Sizzle Press.

The Associate Editor/Editor will handle a title load of at least 35 titles per year and all of the accompanying paperwork. Responsibilities would include overseeing all stages of the book process, from acquisition of a title through its bound book stage—as well as handling negotiations, contracts, and payments for licensors, authors, and illustrators.

A role in Bonnier Publishing is an opportunity to be a part of something uniquely different. There are no other major publishers like us. Pretty much everything we do is underpinned by our group core values and we’d expect you to live and breathe them every day in everything you do.

What You'll Be Doing:

*Independently editing at least 35 titles per year, including media tie-ins, nonfiction books, novelty formats, and board books
*Keeping up with and efficiently managing paperwork, which includes running P & Ls, generating contracts, processing payments, writing tip sheets and catalog copy
*Providing backup support to the publisher as needed
*Corresponding with licensors regarding approvals and keep close track of deadlines
*Working closely with Editorial, Production, and Design staff in the US, UK, France, and Australia to ensure that books are delivered in a timely manner to distributor’s warehouse
*Contributing creatively to each list, seeking acquisitions and taking part in creative brainstorming sessions

Job Requirements

What You'll Bring to the Table:

*At least five years’ experience in children’s editorial.
*Developed knowledge of the North American book publishing industry and the various players in the marketplace.
*Experience with editing media tie-ins and co-edition books
*Established relationships with licensors, authors, illustrators, and agents a plus
*Bachelor's degree, strong copyediting, proofreading, and writing skills required.
*Ability to work independently, quickly, and efficiently.
*Willingness to go above and beyond the job description and pitch in wherever necessary to get the job done.
*Commitment to deadlines, including willingness to work overtime as required.
*Strong communication, organizational, and computer (PC & MAC) skills a must, including knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and the ability to create and maintain simple databases.
