Job Description

Director, Licensing, PBS KIDS Brand Licensing

DEPARTMENT: Brand Licensing
STATUS: Full-time/Regular/Exempt

JOB OBJECTIVE:

As Director of Licensing, you will be responsible for directing and executing strategic licensing business for PBS KIDS. The scope of the role includes managing both our existing licensing partners and also the recruitment and on-boarding of new licensing partners, which combined will cover a wide range of licensed products and portfolios. In this critical, high profile role you will drive the key initiatives that will facilitate licensing revenue growth and support the mission of PBS KIDS.

As a licensing expert of both soft lines and hard lines, you will build a cohesive and actionable licensing partner growth plan that will support the overall licensing, revenue and brand building objectives. You have a deep understanding of the preschool market, with experience in categories ranging from toys, outdoor play and publishing to apparel, bedding and home décor. You are excited and energized about the potential of the convergence of traditional and digital in the children’s product world.

Partnering with internal and external resources, you will help develop and execute new licensing programs, expand existing partners products into new channels of distribution and new territories, increase licensed product sales through ecommerce with specific focus on Amazon. You will ensure that our licensing partners deliver best in class product designs, innovation and quality.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
-Develop strategic growth plans that will support the overall licensing department growth and profitability goals
-Develop 3-year strategic plan with licensing partners to achieve revenue growth, including product road planning, customer expansion, and a strong emphasis on ecommerce sales growth.
-Work closely with the PBS KIDS licensing partners to develop successful strategic partnerships.
-Identify potential new categories and develop prospecting lists.
-Identify trends and apply them to current business strategies.
-Be exceptional at creating Line Lists and Line Review decks.
-Assist in the on-boarding and signing of new partners.
-Manage annual licensing royalty budget and develop plans to exceed operating plan, tracking on a monthly basis.
-Provide insight to continuously improve the licensing process
-Conduct business reviews with each partner annually and be fully immersed in their business on a month-to-month basis, supporting their business needs and assisting to execute their growth plans.
-Assist licensing partners with the brand and product approval process, working closely with Legal and Product Development to insure delivery of best in class products.
-Negotiate contracts, extensions, amendments and renewals

Job Requirements

SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED:
-8+ years of industry experience required, preferably in consumer goods industry, with a strong understanding of the preschool business.
-Must have experience working in both soft lines and hard lines
-Bachelor's degree in business, marketing or related discipline is required. MBA preferred.
-Good relationships with preschool buyers across mass retail, drug and Amazon
-Have relationships with potential licensees across key preschool categories.
-Passion for growing revenue and supporting the important mission of PBS KIDS.
-You’re a team player but strong individual performer.
-Ability to build strong win-win relationships,
-You must be highly personable, with a ‘can do’ attitude.
-You are organized and detailed oriented.
-You have the ability to manage a high workload of multiple partners and projects in a fast paced environment with competing priorities
-Excellent presentation skills.

-Proficiency in power point, word and excel.
-Knowledgeable about Slack and Trello
-Ability to travel
