Electronic Arts Sharpens Focus on eSports

Electronic Arts (EA) is sharpening its focus on eSports, promoting Matthew Bilbey, formerly VP of Sports Marketing, to EVP for Strategic Growth with a charge to expand the company’s competitive gaming business.

EA’s eSports business consists of FIFA Soccer and Madden NFL Football titles. “We wanted Matt to be able to think about that in a more focused way,” Wilson said.

The move came as EA shifted some management responsibilities toward better integrating its marketing and publishing divisions, CEO Andrew Wilson told analysts.

Chief Marketing Officer Chris Bruzzo adds more responsibility for global publishing to enable EA “to better connect with more players around the world and deliver more choice and personal experiences to meet their changing needs,” Wilson said.

“The industry is changing more in the next five years than it has in the last 45 years” and the company needs to “start thinking about the future of games on a time horizon of five plus years,” Wilson said.”
