Say “BOO(k)!” – Playful Owl to Publish (not so) Scary Monsters™ Step-By-Story™ eBooks

NEW YORK (November 22, 2011) – CopCorp Licensing President Carole Postal today announced a licensing deal granting digital publisher MoveableCode Inc. the right to utilize The Monster Factory’s (not so) Scary Monsters™ characters for a series of Step- By-Story™ ePlay apps to be published under MoveableCode’s Playful Owl imprint.
“The (not so) Scary Monsters are a perfect fit for our Playful Owl Step-By-Story line,” says Kevin Mowrer, CCO of MoveableCode. “The Monsters are not only cute and colorful but – because they lend themselves to so many playful activities and silly situations – kids will love playing and building their own stories with them.”
Step-By-Story (www.stepbystory.com) is a new and unique application created by MoveableCode for smart phones, and popular tablets such as the iPad. The app uses a build-your-own story format to deliver playful child-driven learning for pre-readers and early readers, with a core target audience of 2 – 6 year olds. (not so) Scary Monsters Step-By-Story titles are scheduled to launch before the end of 2011.
“Kevin and Nick and all the people involved with Playful Owl have impressed us with their expertise and focus on providing children with opportunities for playful discovery and learning,” says Postal. “The (not so) Scary Monsters Step-By-Story titles will be great apps for parents, grandparents and other caregivers to load onto their smart devices as a way for their little ones to grow through play.”
“MoveableCode lives and breathes Play. It’s what we do. The charming variety and accessibility of the (not so) Scary Monsters is a brilliant addition to our library of titles and a perfect example of the kind of playful fun we look to bring to our audience.” says Nicholas Napp, CEO of MoveableCode. “We are delighted to be working with CopCorp and The Monster Factory as we realize our product vision.”
About (not so) Scary Monsters™
The (not so) Scary Monsters – a children’s character property featuring a friendly, playful bunch of Monsters that come in an eye-boggling spectrum of colors and forms – are the creation of The Monster Factory, illustrated in glorious detail by their artist Jenny Arthur. Children find the Monsters’ blundering antics hilarious, delighting in their mishaps and practical jokes. The effect on parents is utterly infectious. Some creatures are cute, some revel in being revolting – but all of them are instantly (not so) Scary.
The Monster Factory (www.themonsterfactory.com) was founded in 2000 by business partners Martin Grix and Kate Wakeham as a greetings card publisher, initially specializing in hand-made cards. The West London ideas house has since become synonymous with imaginative, original, eye-catching, quirky and design-focused product that truly connects with the consumer. From this launch pad, the company has nurtured a small but special stable of licensed properties. Its characters now feature in a range of products around the globe.
