Kids Russia 2017: Diverse opportunities and new horizons

The XI International Trade Fair for our Children’s World, Kids Russia 2017, the most important springtime event in the industry of goods for children, ran in the Crocus Expo International Exhibition Center in Moscow from February 28-March 2, 2017. Traditionally, Kids Russia 2017 shared premises with Licensing World Russia – the sole licensing-themed fair in Russia and the CIS.
Professionals are coming to the fair driven by the desire to see what’s new and to stay up on the market trends. Once again the fair confirmed its high status as a leading and trendsetting event in the industry.
242 exhibitors from 12 countries (2016: 221 exhibitors from 11 countries) presented their new products. Important trend is the increase in the number of new exhibitors. This year, 62 new companies were attending the events. Since exhibitors demonstrated high awareness of the retailers’ needs, there are reasons to expect positive developments soon. Over 90% of the polled exhibitors said they would come here next year, which indicates a high degree of satisfaction.
“This is the first time we’ve taken part in the fair. Here we present only new items out of our extensive product range. In our business, preorders are placed until the end of March, which is why Kids Russia is so important for us as an opportunity to present new products and hear customer feedback,” Irina Komarova, director of the Russian representative office of Karlsbach, remarked.
This year’s instillment of Licensing World Russia featured 32 companies, including all leading right holders and licensing agencies working in Russia. For a third year in a row, Nickelodeon Viacom Consumer Products together with licensing agency Pullman Licensing LLC emerged as the general partner of Licensing World Russia.
“This is Russia’s key licensing fair. It has become the place where everyone who has anything to do with licenses can find out what is going on the licensing market. Also coming here are new companies, which are for the first time eyeing the opportunity of dealing in licensed products. This year the number of such companies was 10% larger than a year ago,” Petya Toncheva, Nickelodion Viacom Consumer Products licensing director for Russia, CIS, Ukraine and the Baltic States, stressed.
The fair was running for three days, during which time it was visited by 11,618 people, 96% of who were relevant specialists (2016: 11,396 people, the proportion of specialists being 95%).
“We value our participation in the fair first of all as the opportunity to communicate with our partners coming here from all over the country. We see substantial prerequisites for success. It is worth recalling that after the last year’s instalment of the fair we became the supplier of the largest chain of children’s goods stores, Korablik,” Natalia Zhuravleva, toys development supervisor at Rosbaby, noted.
“This is the third annual instalment of Kids Russia we have visited. Despite the crisis, we see a lot of new participants here. Holding a joint licensing fair is a very interesting idea since precisely licensed goods, i.e. goods, which are popular and recognizable, are important today,” Tatyana Arsenova, participant of the Buyers’ Program and Avis company general director, emphasized.
Specialist zones of Kids Russia 2017 also attracted great attention from the professionals. High appraisals were given to the What’s New! section presenting industry’s know-hows and trends of the season.
“In the What’s New! section we presented Fanclastic construction sets, which aroused a great interest in the fair visitors. We managed to hold some thirty presentations of these products and successful negotiations with a number of trading companies,” Nina Myshanskaya, Fanclastic commercial director said.
This year’s Kids Russia had for the first time featured a Russia-wide gathering of children’s goods supplies and retailers, Kids Retail Speech Forum, organized by the Quorum company. The Forum focused on discussing children’s goods market trends as perceived by different parties, including manufacturers, distributors, vendors, retailers, researchers and advertisers. Over the two days the forum ran, industry experts shared their analytical data, best practices and business cases with market professionals. Forum participants included: GfK RUS, Nielsen, IDEAS4RETAIL\HAMLEYS, Gulliver, Ashan, LENTA, O’KEY, Magnit, Yandex-Market, AliExpress, Burger King, etc.
“That was a very useful event bringing together all representatives of the industry for constructive discussions and problem identification,” Dmitry Nikolayev, Crossway branch director, remarked.
