Keep Calm and Carry On: Spotlight Licensing to Launch North American Licensing Program for Britain's Imperial Museums

Member News - LIMA
NEW YORK (April 25, 2017) – Spotlight Licensing and Brand Management, Inc. (spotlightlicensing.com), has been entrusted with responsibility for managing the North American licensing program for Britain’s Imperial War Museums
“Spotlight Licensing is excited to be working with Imperial War Museums to finally make the images, objects, and other assets in the IWM Collection available for licensing to companies in the U.S. and Canada,” says Spotlight Licensing President Carole Postal. “IWM’s Collection is a treasure trove of authentic military ships, aircraft, vehicles, and equipment along with wartime posters, photographs, correspondence, and so much more!”
Imperial War Museums comprises a family of five museums dedicated to helping current and future generations understand the causes, course and consequences of war by sharing the personal stories of people who have served or lived through war and conflict. IWM’s extensive Collection – including more than 12 million items (e.g., artworks, films, photographs, posters, sound recordings, maps, as well as extraordinary and everyday objects ranging from tanks to teacups) – spans the history of modern war and “wartime experiences” from the First World War, when the museum was established, up to the present day.
“Licensed products are a great way for Imperial War Museums to engage and remain relevant to audiences far beyond the physical bounds of our museums,” says IWM David Fenton, Head of Retail and Admissions. “We are looking forward to providing interested licensees with the access, expertise, and authentic assets to inspire products reflecting the amazing spirit, resilience, creativity, and innovation of people in the face of wartime adversity.”
Since IWM receives only 40% of its funding from the government, licensing also helps provide revenue needed to sustain IWM’s exhibitions and programs and keep IWM operating as a unique, educational and cultural resource with free access to museums in London and Manchester.

About Imperial War Museums

Imperial War Museums is a family of five museums dedicated to helping current and future generations understand the causes, course and consequences of war by sharing the personal stories of people who have served or lived through war and conflict. The five museums are IWM London; IWM North in Trafford, Greater Manchester; the Churchill War Rooms in Whitehall, London; and the historic ship HMS Belfast, moored in the Pool of London on the River Thames.

IWM Centenary

2017 marks Imperial War Museums (IWM) centenary. IWM was established while the First World War was still being fought. Since its establishment people have entrusted IWM with their stories of war from 1917 to the present day, in the knowledge it will continue to share these stories with future generations. IWM will commemorate its 100 years through a centenary of stories from its rich collections across its five branches (IWM London, IWM North, IWM Duxford, Churchill War Rooms and HMS Belfast).
