Job Description

Our Brands Division helps unlock value from undervalued intangible assets. Our unique business is the only brand specialist that owns, lends against, consults to, and values consumer brands of all types. This diverse brand experience puts us in a strong position to succeed in a rapidly changing market. In addition to owning and operating the Wet Seal and Bench brands, the Brands Division also has significant brand-backed loans outstanding to Cherokee, Jonathan Adler, and other high profile global brands.

We have a unique opportunity for an experienced global brand management and licensing professional to join our team reporting to the President, Brands. This individual will utilize their deep knowledge of and strong track record in brand management and licensing, preferably in the fashion industry, to source, negotiate, onboard, manage and grow the revenues of licensee partners. This person will support and drive Gordon Brothers' existing consumer brands portfolio.

The position is based in either: New York City; Los Angeles; or the global headquarters in Boston MA

What you will do.

Investment Support:

- Assist the Brands Division’s investment team in capital deployment opportunities by providing a detailed perspective on potential licensing revenue streams that might be associated with specific brand acquisition candidates.

Brand Management:

- Assume leadership of the Brands Division’s existing investments in Wet Seal and Bench. Become point person evolving existing brand and business strategies to provide licensees the tools they need to be as successful as possible.

- Work with the creative team to redefine business strategies, brand positioning and visual identities of future portfolio brands.

- Manage the execution of any branding, licensing and business consulting projects for third party brands.

- Assist in developing thought pieces and other marketing materials that best articulate the Brands Division’s approach to unlocking brand value.

Licensee Acquisition & Management:

- Develop the short and long term licensee pipeline for brands in the Brands Division portfolio.

- Assist with structuring and negotiating licenses for the Brands Division portfolio of brands. Negotiate, underwrite and close deals.

- Monitor licensee performance and influence their strategy and tactics to deliver growth.

- Establish annual financial plans, forecasts and overall brand P&L for each owned brand.

Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in marketing or business. MBA preferred.

Minimum of seven years of post-graduate experience. Brand management accountability, including P&L, establishing financial plans, forecasting and managing a brand portfolio. Track record of achieving financial targets.

Licensing experience either as a brand owner or at a global licensing agency.

Experience in the fashion industry strongly preferred.

Strong entrepreneurial orientation with a track record in sourcing, selling, analyzing, negotiating and structuring licensing deals.

Demonstrated business acumen and curiosity about how business operates and makes money. Strong intellectual capacity. Demonstrated ability to work in multiple disciplines across industries and build domain knowledge and credibility quickly.

Knowledgeable in the tools and/or technologies necessary to deliver solutions (e.g., MS Office; Social/Collaboration platforms, Skype, presentation programs, etc.).

Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with senior leaders and other professionals and colleagues at all levels while utilizing excellent business judgment in complex situations.

Flexible and tolerant of ambiguity; able to chart a forward direction even when the path is not clear. Focused on business outcomes.
