The V&A is the world’s greatest museum of art, design and performance, with more than 2 million objects representing more than 5,000 years of creativity. It was the UK’s first national museum to develop a designated Research Department, which is now home to the premiere postgraduate programme in the history of design and material culture, as well as the nascent V&A Research Institute (VARI).

Job Description

The V&A operates an award winning global brand licensing programme, the profits of which are covenanted to the V&A. Licensees are given privileged access to the V&A’s extensive archives and highly regarded brand endorsement. The programme’s ongoing success and recent high profile licensed collaborations have demonstrated that there are greater opportunities for development, both in the UK and overseas. In order to achieve the ambitious growth plan a new Senior Manager Brand Licensing role is being created.

The main responsibility will be to manage a recently expanded team of four and ensure the business objectives are met. The team manage licensee relationships in multiple categories across multiple territories. This currently includes Europe, USA, Australia, Japan, Korea and China. The key focus will be on expansion overseas, overseeing contract renewals, range extensions, converting new leads, ensuring licensees develop and promote ranges in line with the V&A’s design and brand guidelines and co-ordinate marketing and press activities and attend relevant trade events. This new role will lead a small and highly productive team. The right candidate will need plenty of ambition, creativity and energy.

• Experience of managing suppliers and business partners and a track record of developing new and existing business categories within the licensing arena
• Extensive experience in contract negotiation
• Experience of ensuring compliance with all appropriate policies, procedures, contracts and relevant legislation
• Ideas based approach to new business that can add profitability to the bottom line and utilise the V&A collections creatively to drive new product development and licensing functions to achieve commercial growth
• Ability to support multiple development projects simultaneously
• Experience of driving on-going marketing activity to bolster sales
