Striker Signs Deals for ‘We Happy Few’

With Compulsion Labs’ much-delayed “We Happy Few” videogame having finally landed a release date (Aug. 10), licensed products are expected hit the market by late summer, says Striker Entertainment’s Russell Binder, whose firm represents Compulsion. The game, unveiled at E3 with fanfare two years ago and originally slated to be released last year, will be available across PlayStation4, Xbox One and Windows.

Ten licensees are fielding products: Ata-Boy (keychains), Bioworld (jewelry, loungewear), Bulls Toys (3D magnets), Concept One (bags, coats), Dark Horse (books), Gold Label (headwear), McFarlane (articulated action figures), Pyramid America (wall art), Spirit Halloween (costume DTR) and Titan (comic books). McFarlane released an action figure of the character Bobby, without marketing support from Compulsion or its distributor Gearbox. With Microsoft having recently acquired Compulsion Labs, “they are going to be able to amplify the message at least on their platform,” says Binder.

4K Media Planning to Revive Rebecca Bonbon

4K Media’s Jennifer Coleman says the company is nearing an agreement for an apparel DTR for Crown Creative’s Rebecca Bonbon as it seeks to revive the French bulldog brand for an older consumer. Created by Hello Kitty designer Yuko Shimizu, Rebecca Bonbon was a fashion hit early this decade. 4K is focusing Bonbon on young women (late teens-early 20s) this time, rather than the much younger demographic targeted earlier.

The decision to target young women was prompted by the brand’s success with that age in Taiwan, Japan and Brazil, says Coleman. “There has been success with a real focus on fashion and young women looking for their own iconic style and that is very different from when it first came to market,” says Coleman.

Meanwhile, 4K also is readying a licensing program for parent Konami’s iconic videogames Frogger, Bomberman and Contra. Konami previously handled licensing out of its Los Angeles office, but shifted the responsibility earlier this year to 4K, which also handles Yu-Gi-Oh.

Frogger, originally released as an arcade game by Konami in 1981 and on Atari 2600 console two year later, already has several licensees including Ripple Junction (apparel), Basic Fun (mini arcade handheld game), MSi Entertainment (plug-and-play TV game) and Super Impulse (4×2 inch mini arcade device).
